Traffic Skills Plus (Intermediate/Advanced)

Ages 18 and up

"I ride on the road, but I want to become more comfortable and safer in traffic."

Then this is the course for you.

"I've ridden in traffic for years. Will I actually learn anything new from this?"

Absolutely. This course is greatly beneficial to riders with a great deal of experience, although that's not a requirement for taking part.

Traffic Skills Plus is a 12-hour course, held in two to three sessions (generally two daytime sessions, or two evenings and one daytime session). It consists of practical tips & strategies and on-bike training to allow you to increase your safety and comfort in traffic.

Interested in becoming a cycling instructor, or need certification for work? This course — plus an additional session comprising a bike handling, on-road and written exam — provides certification for the League of American Bicyclists' Traffic Skills 201 course and is the prerequisite for taking part in their cycling instructor training program.

The course teaches all of the content of Traffic Skills, and adds the following:

  • Riding on higher-speed and more complex roads
  • Climbing and descending
  • Additional bike maintenance/repair (drivetrain, bearings, spoke tensioning)
  • More training in commuting skills, riding in varying weather conditions, and physiology

What you learn will be put into practice on a carefully chosen route, accompanied by one or more skilled, experienced cycling instructors.
