Absolutely. This course is greatly beneficial to riders with a great deal of experience, although that's not a requirement for taking part.
Traffic Skills is an 8-hour course consisting of practical tips & strategies as well as on-bike training.
Interested in becoming a cycling instructor, or need certification for work? This course — plus an additional session comprising a bike handling, on-road and written exam — provides certification for the League of American Bicyclists' Traffic Skills 101 course and is the prerequisite for taking part in their cycling instructor training program.
In an enjoyable, supportive atmosphere, you will learn how to do all of the following:
- Choose a bike and helmet, adjust them to fit you, and check them for safety
- Change a flat tire, and adjust your bike's brakes and shifters
- Ride for comfort and efficiency
You will then learn proven techniques for riding safely and comfortably in traffic:
- Increase your visibility to others
- Recognize and avoid potential hazards
- Increase your safety while following the rules of the road
- Choose the best lane position
- Navigate intersections and other roadway elements
- Negotiate and interact well with other road users
- ...and more
What you learn will be put into practice on a carefully chosen route, accompanied by one or more skilled, experienced cycling instructors.
The course cost includes a 33-page Smart Cycling manual from the League of American Bicyclists.
